REimagine Studio was founded in 2013 by Stephanie Means. The site www.reimaginestudio.com is run by Stephanie Means and Emily Behnke, who collaborate on projects together frequently and have known each other since grade school. Looking for a creative outlet, Emily approached Stephanie about creating a blog that primarily highlighted Stephanie’s business, REimagine Studio, and talked about smart design, beautiful decor, gardening and everything home (with a lot of upcycling and a little bit of sass).
About Stephanie Means
A country girl at heart, Stephanie grew up on a small dairy farm in Upstate New York. It was evident at a young age that she gravitated towards the visual arts and was a quiet, creative child. In elementary school Stephanie’s dad gave her a sewing machine and taught her how to sew. She loved going to craft stores, buying remnants and making them into clothes for her stuffed animals! Entrepreneurship started at a young age. As a teen Stephanie made and sold jewelry at a local Farmers Market and craft shows. In high school Stephanie passed on music and science classes in favor of photography, painting, drafting, and creative textile courses.
Accepted to study at Syracuse University, School of Visual and Performing Arts, Stephanie earned a BFA cum laude in Art Photography with a minor focus in fashion design and textiles in 2003. Since college graduation, the entrepreneurship continued and Stephanie has successfully owned a property management business in Albany, NY for the last 9 years, and began REimagine Studio in 2013.
One of the questions I remember being asked in art school was: “Form over function? Or function over form?” I don’t remember the exact context; I think it must’ve had something to do with helping choose our major. What I do remember is sitting there, waffling between the two, pondering which box to check. The problem was my heart lies in the middle: function AND form. I believe functional things can (and should!) be beautiful. And different. And unique. Our surroundings should inspire us and make us smile.
REimagine Studio is fueled by three of Stephanie’s favorite pastimes: shopping/bargain hunting, interior decorating, and being good to our Earth.
